Nestled in the heart of Heber Springs, Spring Park is a cherished community gathering place and a site of historical significance. With a sprawling playground and space for gatherings, it feels like the perfect spot where memories are made: birthday parties echoing with laughter, community festivals, maybe even a lazy Sunday picnic. A large pavilion is available for reservation, making it a popular venue for local events and celebrations.
Spring Park is best known for its seven natural mineral springs, which have drawn visitors for nearly two centuries. In the mid-1800s, the area—originally called Sugar Loaf—was promoted as a health resort due to the springs' reputed healing properties. The springs became so central to the town’s identity that by 1910, the name was changed again to Heber Springs.
The land that now makes up Spring Park was originally part of a 40-acre tract granted in 1835, and early developers envisioned it as a wellness destination similar to Eureka Springs or Hot Springs. Though the bathing aspect never took off, the mineral waters gained a reputation for curing ailments like dyspepsia and headaches.
Today, Spring Park continues to serve as a peaceful retreat and a reminder of Heber Springs’ origins as a place of healing and community.
